  Recent Catch trends at Finavon.

· For some years against the commercial trend we have deliberately underfished the beat. We have done so because we are determined to minimise disturbance to salmon and seatrout, at the same time as giving fishermen the opportunity to fish untouched pools. We want people to enjoy exclusive access to the river with the fly. We believe that numbers of fish caught is only one indicator of quality. It is just as important to see good numbers of fish in the pools and to fish for them sportingly.

· The Beat averages over fifty salmon and more than 110 seatrout in the last few years, with salmon up to 25lbs and seatrout up to 8lbs. There has been a strong improvement in spring salmon and grilse in the last five years. There is good reason to be expect better catches because of the reduced coastal netting effort, improvements to dams which obstruct the passage of salmon and seatrout to the river, and the prospect of the end to the English North-East drift nets.

· The best months for salmon at Finavon are April, May, September and October. August can also be very good if there is sufficient water. Salmon average between 9 and 10lbs with bigger fish, often over 20lbs, caught in the autumn of most years.

· Seatrout start coming into the the river in numbers in early June and normally reach a peak at the beginning of July. The best seatrout fishing is in June and July, with the quality of the fishing tailing off after mid August. Seatrout average 2lbs 8oz and each season there are a number in the 4lbs plus range, sometimes double that weight. Finavon seatrout average over 110 season.
